RULES & REGULATIONS

Welcome to the official rules and regulations for Muay Thai competitions. Please review the following guidelines for all fighters and participants.

1. Ring Specifications
Size: The ring must be square, typically ranging between 5 to 6 meters on each side (inside the ropes).
Ropes: The ring is enclosed by four ropes, with the bottom rope positioned approximately 30–50 cm above the canvas.
Canvas: The surface must be non-slippery, properly secured, and cleaned before each event.
Turnbuckles: All turnbuckles must be adequately padded to ensure fighter safety.

2. Match Duration & Rounds
Amateur: 3 rounds × 2 minutes
Semi-pro: 5 rounds × 2 minutes
Professional: 5 rounds × 3 minutes
Rest Period: A 1 minute rest period is provided between rounds
Title Matches: For championship bouts, the number of rounds may increase to 7 or 9.

3. Fighters’ Attire
Shorts: Fighters must wear appropriate Muay Thai shorts (no pockets, zippers, or attachments).
Gloves: Fighters must wear Muay Thai-specific gloves (6-16 oz, depending on weight category).
Handwraps: Hand wraps are required under gloves to protect the wrists and knuckles.
Protective Gear: Groin protectors and mouthguards are mandatory.
Footwear: Fighters must compete barefoot.

4. Weight Divisions (IMO)
Fighters compete in the following weight categories:
Male Athlete
Minimumweight: 20–25 kg
Light Flyweight: 26–30 kg
Flyweight: 31–35 kg
Bantamweight: 36–40 kg
Featherweight: 41–45 kg
Lightweight: 46–50 kg
Welterweight: 51–55 kg
Light Middleweight: 56–60 kg
Middleweight: 61–65 kg
Light Heavyweight: 66–70 kg
Cruiserweight: 71–75 kg
Heavyweight: 76–80 kg
Super Heavyweight: 80+ kg

Female Athlete
Minimumweight: 20–23 kg
Pinweight: 24–27 kg
Light Atomweight: 28–31 kg
Atomweight: 32–35 kg
Mini Flyweight: 36–40 kg
Flyweight: 41–45 kg
Light Bantamweight: 46–50 kg
Bantamweight: 51–55 kg
Lightweight: 56–60 kg
Welterweight: 61–66 kg
Middleweight: 67–72 kg
Super Middleweight: 73–77 kg
Heavyweight: 78–80 kg
Super Heavyweight: 80+ kg

5. Match Conduct
Legal Techniques: Punches, elbows, knees, and kicks are allowed. Clinch fighting is permitted, and knees can be used effectively.
Illegal Techniques: Headbutts, strikes to the back of the head, groin attacks, kicks to the knee joints, and grabbing the ropes for leverage are prohibited.
Fouls: Fighters may not hold or push an opponent’s head down to strike the face. Attacking a downed opponent is not allowed.

6. Scoring System
Scoring Criteria: Judges score based on effective striking, dominance in the clinch, aggressiveness, and ring control.
Judging: Each round is scored with a 10-point system. The winner of the round receives 10 points, with the loser receiving a lower score based on performance.
Tie: In case of a tie round, both fighters receive 10 points.

7. Knockouts & TKO
Knockout (KO): If a fighter is knocked out and unable to rise after a 10-count, the opponent wins by KO.
Technical Knockout (TKO): If a fighter is deemed unable to continue due to injury or damage, the referee can stop the fight, declaring a TKO victory.

8. Decision Outcomes
Unanimous Decision: All three judges score in favor of one fighter.
Split Decision: Two judges score for one fighter, and one for the other.
Majority Decision: Two judges score for one fighter, while one judge calls it a draw.
Draw: If the judges score the match evenly or if a technical draw is declared (e.g., injury), the result will be a draw.

9. Referee's Role
The referee ensures the rules are enforced, fighter safety is prioritized, and the match is stopped immediately in cases of fouls or injury.

10. Pre-Fight Medical Checks
All fighters must undergo a medical examination before competing to ensure they are fit for the match.

11. Timekeeper
The timekeeper is responsible for ensuring accurate timing of all rounds and breaks.

12. Prohibited Substances
Fighters will be tested for performance-enhancing drugs before and after the competition to ensure a fair and safe environment.

Declaration
By participating in Muay Thai events, all competitors and participants agree to adhere to these rules and regulations.
